Position Overview:

Since its founding in 2019, Shega has been at the forefront of covering innovation, technology, and the startup ecosystem in Ethiopia. As a leading media outlet, Shega has become the go-to source for startup-related news, achieving several significant milestones.

Building on this momentum, Shega is expanding its coverage by launching a new Amharic media platform dedicated to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through short-form video content.

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Multimedia Content Lead to spearhead Shega's new Amharic platform. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the creation of engaging short-form video content that highlights news, trends, and challenges faced by Ethiopian SMEs, while also covering broader social topics relevant to the community. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of digital media, content creation, and the Ethiopian business landscape, with a focus on innovation in multimedia storytelling.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce multiple reports weekly in short-form video format.

• Lead the development and execution of a content strategy for Shega’s new Amharic platform, focusing on SMEs and broader social stories.

• Oversee the production of short-form video content from concept to completion, ensuring high editorial standards.

• Collaborate with the editorial team to translate traditional news reporting into engaging video formats, adapting content for platforms like TikTok, Telegram, and Facebook.

• Collaborate with a creative team of videographers and video editors to produce stories.

• Manage the social media channels of Shega’s new Amharic media.

• Work closely with SMEs and small business owners to highlight their stories, challenges, and successes.

• Drive audience engagement through innovative multimedia formats, ensuring the platform resonates with a broad Amharic-speaking audience.

• Monitor content performance and adjust strategies as needed to meet viewership and engagement goals.

• Stay informed of trends in digital media, short-form content, and the SME ecosystem to keep Shega’s platform ahead of the curve.

• Maintain the same editorial integrity and standards as Shega’s English platform while adapting content to suit the new media's target audience.

• Collaborate with Shega’s editorial team to convert some of Shega’s written articles into short-form content.

• Build and maintain strong professional relationships with peers in the team and Shega clients.

• Be immersed in the world of digital story telling and take leadership in innovating and experimenting solutions to grow the reach and impact of the media.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in business reporting. Previous experience in video or multimedia production is favored.

• Deep knowledge of the Ethiopian media landscape, including familiarity with trends in digital and social media platforms like TikTok, Telegram, and Facebook.

• Strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing SMEs in Ethiopia.

• Fluency in Amharic and English, with exceptional storytelling and editorial skills.

• Experience leading creative teams and managing content production workflows.

• Ability to think strategically and creatively, with a focus on audience engagement and growth.

• Strong project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple stories and deadlines.
