We are looking for a highly skilled Data Manager who will be integral about our data and intelligence engagement and oversee the end-to-end data processes and ensuring that Shega databases are sound, the resources are efficiently  managed, and contributing to the development of key data-driven products and services. 
 

The ideal candidate will have experience in areas including data analysis, consulting, data science, data engineering, team management, as well as product development. 
 

They will work closely with the Product, projects, data and research teams to drive data-driven decisions, contribute to product roadmaps, and ensure the seamless 
integration of data across the organisation.  

Core responsibilities: 

• Database development: Ensure the design, development, maintenance, efficiency and scalability of Shega databases. Oversee the design, development, and implementation of robust databases, ensuring the availability, consistency, and reliability of data for internal and external products. 

• Collection, analysis, visualisation, storytelling: Conduct data collection and analysis Shega flagship product and client platforms and outputs. 

• Team management: Oversee the potential external team during collection, analysis, and reporting for Shega flagship products and client deliverables. Support the data analysts, ensuring all projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards. 

• Strategic alignment: Support the Shega Insights Lead in ensuring the data strategy aligns with business goals and client needs. Collaborate with the CEO, Product Manager and the senior leadership to ensure data strategy aligns with Shega business goals. 

• Data-Product consistency: Work with the Product Team to maintain and refine databases and their integration with Shega intelligence platform, as well as affiliated platforms. 

• Innovation: Work closely with the other Data Leaders, Product Team, and Data Analysts to drive automation of data processes and explore innovative methods for data collection, analysis, visualization, and overall optimization, including the use of automation and AI tools. 

• Training: Lead the training and development of the junior data team, as well as external contractors. 

We are looking for someone with: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree or relevant certifications are a plus. 

• 4+ years of experience in data management, data analysis, consulting, or data engineering, with a focus on product development and data infrastructure. 

• Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring teams, with excellent management and leadership skills. 

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

• Experience working in both internal facing and external facing roles, specifically with high-calibre clients in the development, government, or private sectors. 

• Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Google Looker Studio, Tableau, Flourish, and custom dashboards development. 

• Programming skills in Python, SQL, or R, with a deep understanding of data engineering frameworks and tools. 

Good to haves: 

• Experience in data product development, including collaboration with cross-functional teams to design and implement data solutions. 

• Knowledge of AI applications to data, processes and tools. 

• Knowledge of data privacy regulations such as GDPR, and understanding of data governance, compliance, and security protocols. 

• Knowledge of design tools such as Figma or Adobe Illustrator. 

• Knowledge of data engineering and product development.
