Job Summary

We are looking for a passionate, curious, and detail-oriented Intern Reporter to join our editorial team. This internship is an exciting opportunity for recent graduates who are eager to start a career in journalism and are particularly interested in innovation, startups, and technology in Ethiopia and across Africa. You will gain hands-on experience in reporting, researching, interviewing, and publishing content across digital platforms while working closely with our editorial and creative teams.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Content Creation: write and edit news articles, feature stories, and opinion pieces that align with Shega’s editorial voice and standards.

• Research & Story Development: conduct in-depth research to identify emerging trends and story opportunities in innovation, technology, and startup ecosystems. Evaluate news tips and leads for story potential.

• Interviewing: conduct interviews with entrepreneurs, policymakers, industry experts, and other stakeholders. Ensure accurate, balanced, and insightful reporting based on verified information.

• Collaboration: work closely with editors, fellow reporters, and the graphics/multimedia team to produce comprehensive and visually engaging content.

• Digital Publishing: upload and format content for Shega’s website, ensuring all digital publishing standards are met.

• Event Coverage: attend press briefings, conferences, product launches, and other public events to gather information and report on real-time developments.

• Audience Engagement: monitor the impact of your stories and engage with readers when appropriate through digital channels.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Recent graduate from a recognized university (preferably in Journalism, Communications, Literature, or related fields).

• Excellent command of written and spoken English.

• Strong writing and editing skills, with an ability to produce clean, compelling, and accurate content under tight deadlines.

• Comfortable conducting interviews and synthesizing information from various sources.

• Basic understanding of Ethiopia's innovation and tech ecosystem is a plus.

• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced team environment.

• Familiarity with digital publishing tools and social media platforms is an advantage.
